Hereframe
Hereframe is a proposed lensless digital camera for technically curious users who want to explore place, direction, and machine-generated imagery. Instead of capturing light through a conventional lens, it is intended to combine location, device orientation, available geographic image data, and AI to generate a view for the spot it is pointed toward. Support will fund feasibility work, hardware development, and careful testing of what this idea can responsibly deliver.

The story
Most cameras record light from the scene in front of them. Hereframe begins with a different premise: a handheld object that uses where it is, where it is pointed, and computational models to generate an image associated with that view. The proposed device has no traditional optical lens. Its intended workflow starts when a user holds the device toward a location. GPS/GNSS location data, compass and motion sensors, time context, mapping information, and licensed or otherwise permitted geographic image sources would provide inputs to a generation system. The resulting image would be an interpretation based on those inputs. It would not be a direct photograph of the current scene, and it may differ substantially from what is physically present. This distinction is central to the project. Hereframe is aimed at tech-savvy people interested in computational photography, maps, generative systems, and new ways of thinking about place. It is a concept for exploration and discussion, not a replacement for a conventional camera or a reliable record of events. The proposed physical design is a compact, lensless handheld device measuring approximately 110 by 72 by 18 mm. It has a bead-blasted charcoal aluminum front and frame, a matte black polycarbonate rear, a 3-inch rear display, a top-mounted shutter-style button, a small power button, and a side control dial. The front face is intentionally unbroken by a lens or camera module. On-screen controls would let a user review the selected location and pointing direction before requesting a generated view. Risks and challenges
Hereframe is an early hardware and software concept. Its core experience depends on accurate location and orientation data, suitable geographic data sources, model performance, network access, compute costs, and permissions for any imagery or map data used. A generated result may be inaccurate, outdated, incomplete, delayed, or visually inconsistent with the real scene. It must never be treated as evidence of current conditions. There are also material product risks. Sensors can drift, battery life may be shorter than planned, enclosures may require redesign, and manufacturing quotes or component availability may change. The US$50,000 goal supports development work; it does not remove the need for further validation before a production run. If feasibility, rights review, or production planning shows that the proposed product cannot be delivered as described, the campaign owner should communicate the issue and available options to backers rather than represent generated imagery as a conventional photograph.
