SipSense Bottle: Personal Hydration, Quietly Guided

SipSense Bottle is a 650 mL smart bottle for everyday consumers and athletes who want practical hydration guidance without a medical claim. It combines phone-supplied activity and climate context with bottle-based ambient sensing and user calibration to estimate a daily target. A quiet light ring and haptic pulse provide reminders that can be adjusted or turned off.

The story

Hydration advice is often presented as one fixed number for everyone. In practice, a person’s routine can vary by activity, local temperature, humidity, and individual habits. A fixed goal may be unhelpful on a quiet workday, during travel, or after an active session. SipSense Bottle is being developed as a practical wellness tool that gives users a visible, adjustable estimate rather than a medical instruction. The product is a 650 mL double-wall stainless-steel bottle with a removable electronic collar below its screw cap. During setup in the companion mobile app, the user enters baseline information and selects reminder preferences. The app can use activity information from the phone and local climate context. The collar adds nearby temperature and humidity readings. These inputs are combined into an estimate that adjusts a daily hydration target and reminder timing. The estimate is not a direct measurement of sweat loss, fluid status, or dehydration. It is a wellness-oriented model with limits that depend on the quality of phone context, sensor conditions, and user calibration. SipSense communicates through a narrow light ring and a low-intensity haptic pulse in the collar. There is no exterior screen, audible alarm, straw system, or disposable cartridge. A single flush button supports setup and status checks. Users can change reminder intensity, scheduling, and pause periods in the app. The bottle is intended for people managing busy daily routines, gym sessions, walks, commutes, and recreational training who prefer discreet prompts over frequent phone notifications. The vessel uses food-contact stainless steel, with a food-safe drinking surface and silicone sealing components. The electronic collar is removable so the bottle vessel and non-electronic cap componen…

Risks and challenges

Hydration estimates depend on incomplete inputs and cannot directly measure sweat loss or hydration status. Phone activity context, local climate information, ambient sensor readings, and user-entered calibration may be inaccurate or unavailable. The development work must balance removable electronics, food-contact materials, cleaning requirements, battery access, sensor protection, and durable assembly. Prototype testing may lead to changes in reminder behavior, battery-module design, app functions, materials, schedule, or final pricing. SipSense is a wellness product, not a medical device.
